The Auersperg's are the oldest, wealthiest and most powerful noble families in today's Slovenia. They first appear in the documents in 1162, possibly as early as 1062 and they lived in Slovenia till 1943. Some members of the family, such as Marija Auersperg continue to live in Slovenia today. The family is divided into three main lines - Carniolan, princely and Austrian. The later becoming extinct in 1944. The family produced a cardinal and two prime ministers in 19th century.

In Valvasor's armory, the Auersperg coat of arms appears in 14 different pages, each section denoting the significance of the members on those pages. For example, the arms appears in the section which depicts one of ten families who were the titulars of the hereditary estate rights of Carniola. The Armory also depicts the arms in a section that denotes individuals who were generals in the Karlovac. Other sections indicates members of the Auersperg family being a Carniolan provinical governor general, provincial vice-governor and members of the provinicial committee in Carniola.
