Originally drawn in 1401, published in Siegenfeld's book in 1900, the arms represented the Lords of Hohenberg, who held a seat in Wilhelmsburg (today Lower Austria, historically the region was Styria).
The heraldic beast illustrated on the field (shield) in this case appears to have a head of a horse, with spitting fire from its mouth and nostrils, yet the body is illustrated with paws with large talons implying something other than a horse. In heraldic history, the horse was rarely included in arms, and therefore, it can be surmised, that the beast illustrated is less of a horse, and more of a panther. |
