SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF SLOVENIA (1945 - 1991)
ščit (arms) |
The coat of arms did not follow the traditional rules of heraldry and therefore, traditional blazon cannot be applied. It was rounded by a pair of wheat sheafs with linden leaves, and featured the Communist red star at the top. The 5-pointed red star was meant to represent the 5 fingers of the worker's hand, as well as the 5 in-habited continents. It is the most recognizeable symbol of the Communist idealogy. |
The Slovenian mountain "Trivglav" was also recognized as a symbol of Slovenian Liberation Front during the National Liberation War during World War II. Trivglav is the highest mountain in Slovenia. It was named after a mythical Slavic god, "Triglav". The shape of the mountain can be seen from the Bohinj Valley. A similar symbol of "Trivglav" also appears on Slovenia's present day coat of arms. |
